IMO, at most resorts, it is not worth it. However, at Secrets Aura, I believe it is worth it if you would like to have a more relaxed and upscale experience. The Preferred area has its own very nice pool with ample loungers and its own swim up bar. The Preferred beach area has nicer, cushioned loungers and prompt service.

The beach at the Grand Park is huge, wide and beautiful. The hotel has an older section and a newer part (premier rooms I think they call them) It is an amazing beach!! All of which gives Cozumel a less ‘Americanized’ vibe than Cancun. Head to the west of the island if you are looking for protected beaches with good swimming. Cancun is not going to give you an "authentic" experience. Cancun is more of a party atmosphere filled with AIs. Tulum is more laid back. The beach is great. Cozumel is more for snorkeling and diving. The shopping is good downtown. You may want to think about staying in Playa del Carmen.My husband and I have the option of going to cancun or cozumel. Even with a stop, Cancun is often (but not always) cheaper. I actually almost always get through the Cancun airport immigration and customs much faster than in Cozumel, and the bus ride to Playa del Carmen isn't bad. The ferry from there to the island can be fun. I dislike getting back to Cancun for return flights.
